How it works
Overview:
The Harvest for Health and Education initiative offers a unique way for families engaged in farming to secure essential services for their health and education needs. Instead of financial payment, families contribute part of their agricultural produce, which Relieft uses to fund these vital services. We firmly oppose using land as collateral, recognizing that it is an essential livelihood source for these families.
Harvest Contributions:
Uganda's farming calendar includes two major harvest periods—after the first rainy season from June to July, and after the second from December to January. This allows families to predict and plan their contributions without risking their agricultural productivity.
Program Features:

Produce for Services Exchange: Families provide part of their surplus agricultural produce in exchange for direct support covering educational fees and healthcare costs.

Community Market: The contributed produce is sold at the Releift Community Market, with proceeds directly funding educational scholarships and healthcare services.

Sustainable Support: This initiative promotes sustainable community development by recycling agricultural wealth back into crucial health and education services.

Enrollment Process:

Initial Contact: Interested families start the process with a phone call to Releift’s office.

Site Visit: A Releift representative visits the farm to discuss potential sustainable contributions.

Negotiation and Agreement: Together, Releift and the family determine the amount of produce they can comfortably contribute, ensuring the arrangement is sustainable and non-disruptive.
